Today lets take a journey deeper into the Black Hills of South Dakota. Approximately 40 miles from my family's cabin there are four faces carved, blasted, and drilled into the side of Mt. Rushmore. These four handsome men are George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodor Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln. Now my first visit to this wondrous monument was a little bit of a disappointment. I was expecting huge faces like they are portrayed on postcards and photos. In truth Mt. Rushmore is rather small, but still a great sight. There is an abundance of wealth on the walk to see the monument. The flags to every state and the year they joined the United States are posted as well as all the information about the site and how the faces where made. There is a souvenir shop and a huge cafeteria that in my opinion has the best fudge and taffy in about every flavor imaginable and in the souvenir shop there is everything from shirts to hand made necklaces and even books. The area around Mt. Rushmore is coverd in chipmunk burrows and the little creatures love to come out and get into all sorts of trouble. They are nearly imposible to catch, trust me i have tried.
